With more than 15 years of experience, María Pilar built her career in the administration departments of companies in the industrial and construction sectors until, in 2012, she joined the Tax Department of Lacasa Abogados, Palacios & Partners, which was integrated into MAIO Legal in 2021.

Her practice focuses mainly on recurring tax and accounting advice to companies, and she is also involved in handling numerous tax proceedings.

María Pilar also specializes in tax advice on personal and family wealth, whether private or business in nature, with particular attention, where applicable, to compliance with the requirements necessary to access the tax benefits for Family Businesses.

Carlos is the Partner in charge of the Tax and Accounting areas at the Zaragoza office.

Specialized in Tax and Accounting Law, he also has solid knowledge of Corporate and Insolvency Law, with extensive experience (since 2003) advising companies.

Before joining MAIO Legal as a Partner in 2021, Carlos was an Associate in the Tax Department of the law firm Lacasa Abogados, Palacios & Partners, where he had worked since 2008.

His practice focuses primarily on Spanish state taxes (IS, IVA, IRPF and IRNR), advising various tax consolidation groups and companies belonging to multinational groups. At the international level, he has extensive experience in the VAT treatment of cross-border transactions and in the analysis of the direct taxation implications of companies’ international operations.

He also regularly participates in the planning and implementation of corporate reorganization processes (acquisitions, mergers, spin-offs, etc.), as well as in defense before the Tax Administration at its various levels (tax verification and audit procedures, economic-administrative claims and contentious-administrative appeals).

In terms of teaching activity, since 2009 Carlos has collaborated in teaching several Master’s programs in Tax Advisory, as well as tax update conferences and seminars.

He is also the author of several expert reports on economic and financial matters requested in court proceedings (mostly relating to complex financial instruments, such as swaps or structured deposits) and Insolvency Administrator of several companies.
